Though the days are still quite warm, I’m starting to go through and inventory pieces for fall. It’s starting to cool down in the mornings and at night, and I’ve found myself already starting to wear some of these pieces! This post is an extension from my summer closet audit here.
What I’m looking forward to dusting off:
Sweaters, sweaters, sweaters
From more affordable options from the likes of Everlane & Naadam, to my more heavyweight Vince funnel neck sweater, I’m looking forward to putting these back into rotation. Especially since I’ve learned to extend their lifespan through layering with Uniqlo heattech pieces.
Real shoes
I definitely have more shoes appropriate for cooler climates than for hot summer months, and I can’t wait to wear them again. In particular my leather loafers, flats, stretchy knit boots, and suede mules. And perhaps one more that I’ll add (more on that below).
Textures
In general, I’m excited to play around with textures and layers, from accessories to shoes to clothing. Suede moto jackets, teddy coats, and my small-but-large-personality Telfar x UGG mini shopping tote. I pre-ordered the latter almost a year ago knowing that it would be delivered in the summer. And it was worth the wait!
I would also include coats, but fall is still a semi-warm transition period with the occasional 80 degree day in October, so that will be more of a winter category.
What I’m looking to add (or have recently added):
Indoor friendly layers
Touched on this in my summer closet audit, and this definitely applies for fall as well. After an extensive search, I bought this wool shirt jacket aka shacket and a cardigan from &otherstories which fit the bill nicely! Yes, I’m a bit boring buying both in a cream color, but they’ll easily pair with the rest of my wardrobe.
Lace-up boots
Confession – I’ve wanted a pair of laced boots since college, but never could find the right pair. At that time, only the standard ‘military’ style ones existed, which had a tendency to elongate my already somewhat large feet for my height (size 7.5 at 5’4”). I eventually gave up the search when I got these Frye boots, which have lasted me 10+ years with two re-soles.
But with all the newer variations of lace-up boots these past few years (lug soles, mid heels, etc) I’d like to seriously look into finally adding a pair. I’m currently eyeing this pair from Sam Edelman!
