What I Bought: Black Friday 2021

My 2021 Sale Purchases

Parachute Brushed Cotton Sheet Set | Purchased for $119 (20% off)

A fitted sheet + two pillowcases in ivory, to pair with both our olive linen duvet cover set (reviewed here) and winter flannel duvet set.

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair SPF30 & Masks | Purchased for 30% off and some free goodies

This holiday kit includes a full-sized Cicapair Color Correcting SPF30 cream and a bunch of other goodies! I’ve been sparingly using my small sample from Sephora, so this was perfect timing. My skin turns red easily, and this does a great job of reducing that redness while also providing sun protection. I also picked up a few masks while I was at it.

Girlfriend Collective Sweatshirt & Sweatpants | Purchased for $110 (set) (30% off)

Technically, I ordered two: a cropped set and a regular set, and will choose one. I love Girlfriend Collective (my leggings have held up well), so I’m excited to try these. I’m slightly hesitant re: the drop shoulder silhouette, as they can make me look top heavy. Hopefully, that is not the case here, but we will see.

Aritzia TNA Polar Fleece Cropped Hoodie | Purchased for $39 (50% off)

Two of my oldest pieces of clothing still in current rotation are my North Face Denali jacket and TKA 100 quarter zip, both made from a polartec material. I really like this updated cropped version that looks perfect for lounging at home. And in general, I am taking full advantage of the current cropped trend as a short-torso lady!

Guppyfriends Laundry Bag | Purchased with REI dividends

Technically, this wasn’t on sale – but I purchased with my REI dividends which are expiring later this year. I have heard about this microfiber filtering wash bag for some time, and am excited to start using it. While I’ve generally replaced most synthetic fibers in my everyday clothing, it’s hard to avoid polyester and nylon in performance exercise / outdoor gear.

And a bonus instant-regret purchase…

Roxy x Rowley Puffer Jacket in Bright Patchwork | Purchased for $319 (20% off)

I love bright colors on the mountain and was influenced by Chloe Kim. It also reminds me of this incredible jacket made by Jo of @fivespicepower. However, it wasn’t until after placing my order that I realized it is filled with down – which from a practical standpoint isn’t great for a snowboarding jacket. Down loses insulation properties when wet, so if I sweat (and I do) or if I fall enough in the snow (also do), it won’t be effective. Super bummed that they went with down instead of a synthetic for this one!

Keep Me Honest: 2020 Edition

Over the past few years, I try my best to stick to purchases that have been on my ‘list’ for some time and have a good chance at a high utilization rate. So, let’s see how well I did with last year’s purchases:

Clover Takumi Bamboo Circular Knitting Needles Set I Purchased for $130 (28% off)

I’ve used the smaller needles for socks, but have yet to knit my first sweater or beanie with the larger ones. My sewing has slowed down since crossing most things off my “make list”, I’m hoping to get more knitting in for 2022.

Sevilla Smith Liz Mules + Shearling Insert | Purchased for $225 + $24 (20% off)

I loved the thicker leather – unfortunately, this was a size too small for me so I had to rehome. Now I know – stick with Size 38 for all of her shoes!

J Brand Maria Skinny Jeans from Bloomingdales | Purchased for $94 (50% off) + 10% cash back

Still wearing these quite a bit; however, they don’t have the same color fastness as my original pair. They began fading after only a few washes, so these are now my casual ankle cut-off jeans.

Mansur Gavriel Mini Protea Bag from Neiman Marcus | Purchased for $595, receiving $125 gift card + 20% cash back (~40% off)

Wore this several times during the summer, but didn’t reach for it as much after getting the Polene Béri / Numero Onze (reviewed here). So I am now rehoming!

Ring Spotlight Cam & Small Solar Panel | Purchased for $149 + $49 (25% off the Spotlight Cam)

Took me several months to get around to installing – but I did! I ended up buying a second one afterwards as well, the solar panel is great since we don’t have many outdoor power outlets. And now we know that there are rats hanging around by our side gate. So lovely.

Philips LED Penguin & Baby Penguin from Target (this year’s here) | Purchased for $67.50 total (25% off)

Still have, of course! I busted these guys out two weeks ago to make our front door festive.

Santa Sloth Slippers from AE | Purchased for $15 (50% off)

Same as above – so cute and still in rotation this season!
